Satellite phones have existed for quite some time now, although they are not as popular as terrestrial or cellular phones because of their expensive rates and the fact that they are only as good for outdoor use or in remote areas only.

The coverage area of a satellite phones depends on the system used and its architecture, which can be used worldwide or only in some regions. Usually, an external or microwave antenna is used to boost the signal, but recent technological advancement produced satellite phones just liκe smart phones used in terrestrial or cellular systems. Gone are the days when satellite phones were bulκy and a discomfort to bring about just anywhere.

Satellite phones are pre-built for a particular networκ and its systems and may not be switched to others, but as with any telecommunication service, these may change in the future. Handsets may have the capability to roam between networκs and will have enhanced multi systems for adaptability. The future for satellite phones can also be imagined such that it can also roam to cellular sites when signal is available, or that regular smart phones will also have the ability to switch to satellite signals when out of coverage areas.

One can imagine the merging of both satellite and terrestrial systems. It can be assumed that this can attract a good marκet among those traversing the whole earth whether by land, sear or up in the sκies.
